Confucius Institute at Sebelas Maret University in Indonesia Inaugurated

On the afternoon of March 11th, local time, Xihua University in China and Sebelas Maret University in Indonesia held the unveiling ceremony of the Confucius Institute in Surakarta, Indonesia. Bian Huimin, Chair of the University Council of Xihua University, and Professor Ravik Karsidi, President of Sebelas Maret University, jointly unveiled the nameplate of the Confucius Institute at Sebelas Maret University established by the two universities.

Liu Qiang, Deputy Consul General the People¡¯s Republic of China in Indonesia, the representative of the Cultural Section of the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia, and the Chinese and Indonesian directors from the other six Confucius Institutes in Indonesia attended the unveiling ceremony.

The leaders of the two sides respectively delivered warm speeches at the unveiling ceremony and expressed their good wishes for the building and development of the Confucius Institute.

The Confucius Institute is the seventh of its kind China built in Indonesia and the first Confucius Institute in Central Java. Its opening is of great significance to Chinese language education and Chinese cultural communication in Central Java and East Java.

Under the support of the Chinese Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) and related departments in Indonesia as well as the guidance of the Chinese Embassy and consulates in Indonesia and various parties, the Institute was successfully established by the close cooperation between the two universities.

Located in Surakarta, Central Java, Sebelas Maret University was established on March 11th, 1976. It ranks 10th among more than 1600 national universities in Indonesia and is a well-known comprehensive public university.

The University carefully selected March 11th to hold the unveiling ceremony of the Confucius Institute. At the ceremony in the morning, Ravik Karsidi introduced the building process and goals of the Confucius Institute to guests from all walks of life including the governor of Central Java and officials from the Indonesian Ministry of Higher Education.
